What are the most effective blinds for conservatory heat?
Pleated roof blinds with a reflective backing are the most effective solution for managing heat in a conservatory. They reflect solar energy before it enters the room, rather than merely blocking light after the heat has already accumulated.
The roof is where the majority of heat enters. Side windows contribute less because sunlight strikes them at a shallower angle. Fitting roof blinds alone can reduce peak temperature by several degrees on a hot day.
For the roof, honeycomb pleated blinds with a silver-backed fabric deliver the strongest performance. The cellular structure traps air for insulation while the reflective coating bounces heat back towards the glass. They work in both seasons — keeping heat out in summer and retaining warmth in winter.
For side windows, roller blinds or Perfect Fit blinds are a practical choice. They are simpler to operate and more affordable than roof-mounted pleated options. Opt for a light-coloured fabric to maximise heat reflection.
Dark fabrics should be avoided on conservatory roofs. Dark material absorbs heat and radiates it into the room, compounding the problem.
Electric operation is worth considering for overhead blinds that are difficult to reach. A remote control removes the need to stretch or stand on furniture.
We measure and fit conservatory blinds for both roof and side panels. All fitting is complimentary.
