Can Roman blinds be made with blackout lining?
Yes. Roman blinds can be manufactured with a full blackout lining bonded or sewn to the reverse of the face fabric. This additional layer prevents light from penetrating through the weave.
Blackout-lined Romans are a popular bedroom choice for anyone who wants the elegance of cascading fabric folds but also values a dark sleeping environment. The lining provides thermal benefits too, retaining warmth in winter and deflecting heat in summer.
One detail to bear in mind: even with blackout lining, some light will creep around the edges where the blind meets the frame. Romans sit flat against the window rather than inside a sealed channel. For near-total darkness, request that the blind be fitted slightly wider than the recess.
Thermal lining is an alternative if full blackout is unnecessary. It reduces heat loss through the glass without eliminating all light — a sensible compromise for living areas and dining rooms.
When placing an order, you choose the face fabric from our full collection and then select the lining type independently. This ensures you are not limited to a narrow range of blackout colours.
We bring fabric swatches to your home so you can assess them under your own lighting. Measuring and fitting is included.
