How do day and night blinds actually work?

Day and night blinds employ two parallel layers of fabric, each featuring alternating bands of sheer and opaque material. The layers sit one in front of the other on a single roller mechanism. As you adjust the blind, the bands shift relative to each other.

When the sheer bands on both layers align, filtered daylight passes through freely, creating a soft glow akin to a voile. When the opaque bands overlap, the blind closes and blocks the view from outside.

The adjustment is smooth and continuous. You can pause at any point between fully open and fully closed, granting far more nuance than a standard roller blind, which is simply up or down.

Day and night blinds are sometimes marketed as vision blinds or zebra blinds. Regardless of the label, the operating principle is identical.

They excel in living spaces and kitchens where your lighting needs shift throughout the day. A single blind replaces the combination of net curtains and a roller.

Bear in mind that day and night blinds are not blackout. Even when fully closed, a trace of light passes where the bands meet. For bedrooms requiring total darkness, a dedicated blackout roller is the stronger option.

We supply day and night blinds in a broad palette. Complimentary measuring and fitting included.
