Vertical blinds or curtains for sliding doors?

Vertical blinds are generally the stronger choice for sliding doors. The louvres glide sideways in the same direction the door opens, so nothing impedes everyday access. Curtains, by contrast, bunch to one side and can snag when the door is in regular use.

Vertical blinds also deliver finer control over light and privacy. You can angle the louvres to admit natural light while still screening the interior from outside view. Curtains offer a binary choice — open or closed — with little in between.

From a maintenance perspective, vertical louvres are straightforward to clean. Fabric versions can be wiped down or detached for washing. Heavy curtains typically need professional cleaning.

Curtains do hold an advantage in aesthetics. Lined, floor-length drapes add a softer, more decorative quality. If visual impact takes priority over daily functionality, curtains can work. But for a sliding door that sees frequent use, verticals win on convenience and durability.

Cost is another consideration. Vertical blinds are usually less expensive than bespoke curtains for the same span, particularly on wider openings.

We fit vertical blinds to any door width. Measuring and fitting is complimentary with every order.
