Which blinds are designed for Velux and skylight windows?

Velux windows require blinds engineered specifically for roof-mounted operation. Standard blinds will not work because they hang away from the glass at an angle. Skylight blinds use tensioned side rails to hold the fabric flush regardless of pitch.

The most common options are roller, pleated, and venetian formats. Roller blinds are the most popular thanks to their simplicity, affordability, and availability in blackout cloth — ideal for loft bedrooms.

When ordering, you will need the model code printed on your Velux window. It is typically stamped on a small metal plate along the top edge of the frame. Codes follow a pattern such as GGL M04 or GPU SK06. This ensures the blind is manufactured to fit the side rails precisely.

Blackout skylight blinds are particularly valuable in loft bedrooms. Roof windows admit more light than vertical windows because they face the open sky. Without a blackout blind, loft rooms can be uncomfortably bright from early morning through late evening in summer.

For skylights that are difficult to reach, electric operation is available. A remote control or wall switch eliminates the need to climb or stretch.

We supply skylight blinds for all Velux window sizes and most rival roof window brands. Fitting is included at no extra cost.
